Today’s diets are increasingly full of questions: what to eat, where does it come from and how does it affect our health? Fish – especially fresh and wild caught fish – is one of those rare foods that combines all the right answers. At Kalakratis, we believe that fish shouldn’t be a luxury or a feast – it should be a natural part of our weekly menu. And just at least twice a week.
WHY FISH?
Fish is rich in high-quality protein, vitamin D and essential omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients are important for heart, brain and joint health, and even mood.
Studies show that regular fish consumption can:
- improve overall mood and mental health.
- reduce the risk of heart disease,
- support brain development and memory function,
- relieve inflammatory conditions,
- contribute to normal vision and skin.
WHY TWICE A WEEK?
This is the minimum recommended by the World Health Organisation and nutrition scientists. Two portions of fish a week provide the body with the necessary amount of omega-3 fatty acids, which are not produced by the body but are essential for our health. This is particularly important for children, the elderly and pregnant women.
WHY KALAKRATT?
The fish caught in our Hiiumaa waters does not come from far away, is not over-processed or hidden behind complex ingredients. We know who catches our fish. We smoke and dry it ourselves. We value simplicity, honesty and taste.
If you’re in a hurry and home fish frying isn’t always realistic, give it a try:
- dried fish snout – a simple source of omega-3 in the office or school bag,
- high quality fish stock – the ideal base for soups and sauces,
- or KRATT crisps – which as a snack are not a gram less than “normal” crisps, but are also good for the body.
INVITE THE SEA TO YOUR PLATE
Make healthy eating a simple habit. Start small – one fish lunch during the week, one crisp packet at the weekend. Your body (and taste buds) will thank you.
KALAKRATT – the best the sea has to offer.
